Where it all began
Over the past twenty years, Mike Koolen has gained a wealth of experience as an innovator in the food and beverage related industries, both in Australia and overseas. Mike has translated these ideas successfully into companies with turnovers exceeding $15 million per annum.
Back in 1992, Kools Chicken ‘n’ Fries evolved, becoming a hugely successful system/concept with 380 outlets throughout Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. After merging Kools Chicken ‘n’ Fries with Retail Food Group, (Donut King, BB’s Coffee) in 1998, Mike sold the rights to the Kool’s Brand in Australasia, retaining the Kool’s Brand elsewhere throughout the world.
The UK was the next step, and the “Kools” Brand was then promoted to South Africa. The company then sold its complete rights to the Kool’s Brand in late 1999. The next two years followed in New Zealand, with the ‘Zandos’ Brand.
After four years overseas, Mike and his family returned to Australia. Mike started ‘planting’ the seeds of a concept involving coffee. Mike realized that there was a deficit of automatic style, ‘fast service’ coffee machines giving café quality, real bean espresso coffee to the non-traditional market place (i.e. not restaurants or cafes). He then set about sourcing and acquiring the exclusive import rights for Australasia, UK and South East Asia of fully automatic espresso and cappuccino machines which are manufactured in Bergamo, Italy by his manufacturing partners Flymax. Today Espresso Essential represents around 50% of the Italian manufacturer’s total global business.
This billion dollar growth industry has continued to forge ahead in the world market. Coffee is now the world’s second largest commodity, second only to oil!
Accomplishments so far
Over the past 6 years, Espresso Essential has grown via a network of franchisees. In October 2008 Espresso Essential was recognised as the 68th fastest growing company in the BRW magazine ‘2008 Fast 100’ awards. In January 2009 Espresso Essential was again recognised by BRW in the ‘2009 Fast Franchises’ awards as;

How does Espresso Essential train you?
Induction training school –This 5-day training consists of 2-3 days in house training that incorporates sales psychology, specific questions, detailed product training and machine maintenance, document training and business generation. Our goal is to have you on track for a six figure income inside of 6 weeks. We’ll provide the platform – the rest is up to you.
Field training – Part of your induction training also means we support you in the field by riding ‘shotgun’ along side you or having our experienced field trainers or sales veterans show you the ropes in front of live prospects. There is no better way to learn and hone your skills.
One-on-one meetings with your master / sales manager – Regular meetings are scheduled to help you plan and achieve your personal and professional goals. Sharing with your Master / Manager gives them the opportunity to creatively provide ways to drive you through additional incentives and motivation based on what ‘You’ want to achieve – not just the business.
Teleseminars – The Essential Brands Group is a modern, forward thinking group of people and one of the extra things we do from time to time is schedule teleseminar training and interviews with selected people so you can listen in, ask questions and learn from the best! These teleseminars are ALL recorded and available for your listening whilst in your car and between appointments. You can download them, drop them onto an mp3 player and listen to them anytime, anywhere.
Online business tools resource library – This resource centre is an archive of all previous teleseminar recordings, internal newsletters, recommended sales audio programs, books and more. It is a password protected area exclusively available for the business builders in the company and you will get access to this resource once you start with us.
Regular sales meetings – One of the fundamentals of a good sales organisation is quality sales meetings. Our philosophy is to “Have everyone walk out of the room better than when they arrived”. Sales meetings provide a mixture of recognition, awards, incentives, learning, role playing, planning and sharing quality ideas – all designed to help you go to the next level.
Bi-Monthly internal newsletters – These are our internal newsletters that are distributed electronically (PDF) featuring Monthly Award Winners, Ice-breakers, Personal Best Achievements, Sales Tips, Marketing Updates and more.
