IT and computing has become an essential part of the way we work, communicate, do business and are entertained. Over 78% of use own or have access to computer, and the majority of us are users of social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, YouTube.
IT franchises are no longer just for your stereotypical computer geeks but are ideal for anyone who wants to mix their passion for computers with owning their own IT franchise business.
IT franchises vary in what they offer. Franchises such as Supergeek and Geeks on Call offer an onsite repair service, Australia Wide IT, Computer Troubleshooters and Jim’s Computer Services franchise offers a full range of computer support services around Australia or franchises like The Computer Market, who refurbish and resell computer systems. There are also children’s education franchises such as Kip McGrath and ComputerTots that specialises in IT.
The market for IT franchises is huge. There are over 17 million active internet users (December 2010) which was an increase of 10% in the six months previous. More than nine in 10 Australians who have the internet at home use it at least weekly, with almost 60% using it daily. With internet costs continuing to decline, the trend for internet usage looks set to continue growing.

Though we are using computers more often, our declining economy means we are not able to afford to replace them and buy new ones as often as we would like. We are instead looking to get old pcs and laptops repaired to extend their product life. This is good news for those with repair and support franchises.
