Why did you pursue the route of owning a franchise? And why did you choose Australian Skin Clinics franchise?

After researching the competition, I wanted the support of an experienced, well known company which would assist the development of the clinic. I personally received treatments at Australian Skin Clinics and experienced great service and fantastic results. I also have a strong personal belief in the effectiveness of the treatments provided.

What did you do before taking up your Australian Skin Clinic franchise?

I have 14 years of policing experience. Following this, I completed my Diploma of Beauty and along the way I had two children! I also managed a number of real estate renovations.

How did you raise the finance?

Overtime, I invested in properties which assisted me in raising the finance to open my own clinic. The rest of the funds were raised through finance agreements with my bank.

What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?

Initially I received in-depth franchisee and management training from Australian Skin Clinics Master Franchise. I then completed further technical training on laser and skin treatments. The support Australian Skin Clinics’ head office provides is ongoing for all staff at all levels.

What is a typical day for you as a Australian Skin Clinics franchisee?

I work in the clinic approximately three to four hours per day on administration and marketing for up to four days per week. As we are open seven days a week, I am able to attend to all aspects of the clinic during the week and on weekends if required.

What challenges have you faced?

The medi-aesthetic industry is a highly competitive marketplace. However, I believe the Australian Skin Clinics’ service, treatments and training are superior to its competitors. Clients recognise this quality and help us greatly through our referral program.

Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?

My life has certainly changed with the ownership of a business. Time management has become an important skill to master, however I am lucky to have wonderful staff to ensure the smooth running of the clinic day in and day out.

What marketing/promotional tools do you use to grow your franchise?

Social media is a large part of our advertising. We also have VIP days, loyalty programs, sponsorships of charity organisations, letter drops to the community, expo sponsorships and advertisements in and around the shopping centre.

What differentiates your franchise from the competition?

Our focus is genuinely on giving our customers great service with treatments that really work. Our staff training is much more extensive than our competitors. For example, all Australian Skin Clinics Laser Technicians hold a Laser Safety Certificate.

Our treatments also address an extensive range of concerns such as pigmentation, skin texture and tone, age spots, acne scars, freckles, Melasma, lines and wrinkles, general redness and excess hair. We are always researching new techniques and technology that can improve these treatments too.

In your opinion, what makes a successful franchisee?

Independent research prior to purchase is very important. Do not rely on information if it is not given by an unbiased party. Committing to hard work and choosing the right location is important, but one must bear in mind potential competitors and the location of other clinics within the brand. It is vital to find dedicated and loyal staff members too.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?

Research! Always question the information you receive to determine its accuracy. Always speak to other franchisees in the brand to ascertain their happiness within the brand.

What are your plans for the future?

At this point, I want to maximise the success of our current clinic and continue to provide great service and amazing treatments.
