Hudsons Coffee has launched a new concept store in the Chirnside Park shopping centre, east of the company’s Melbourne origins.

In a first for the coffee franchise, and in-line with Australia’s current obsession with food trucks, the store will operate out of a 1970s Citroen H Van, imported especially for the Chirnside Park location. Building on the food truck theme, this unique van will sit amongst a simulated roadway with curbside dining for 20 plus customers, providing an inviting coffee stop for shoppers.

Managing Director of Hudsons Coffee, Adam Summerville, said: “This new store concept has been some time in the making for us, and has been developed to provide a point of difference that is captivating for both landlords and customers, as well as showcasing the innovation from within our network.

“The food truck and street food scene has been growing in popularity over the past few years, and we’ll be merging this with our tried and tested store formula. The idea is to create a hybrid offering that caters for this growing market, while being based in fixed locations to ensure we can provide welcoming surroundings for our customers to relax and enjoy our coffee and food products,” Summerville continued.

The van boasts an exclusive food menu; developed especially for the store by the company’s Executive Chef, Peter Reffell. Reffell’s previous experience has seen him work in some of the world’s top Michelin-starred restaurants, under the guidance of head chefs including Marco Pierre White.

“The Chirnside Park location was chosen for the launch as it provided a unique opportunity to try something new for Hudsons Coffee, as well as adding something different and distinctive to the shopping centre itself.

“This fixed van concept will be an attractive addition to our range of store models. In the right location it will provide for a lower franchise entry option,” Summerville added.

Parked within the shopping centre building, opposite Kmart, the van will be open seven days a week providing breakfast and lunch options, as well as Hudsons Coffee’s choice of coffee blends.

Centre Manager of Chirnside Park, Ryan Ling said: “The new Hudsons Coffee van is fun, eye-catching, and a great new addition to the centre. We feel very privileged to be housing the first store of this kind. It’s an exciting new addition to the Chirnside area.”
