Eagle Boys dough-raiser drives cerebral palsy research

Australian Franchise News – 22-09-11

Thanks to Australian pizza-lovers, Eagle Boys has raised more than $20,000 for Cerebral Palsy Alliance, helping it to support the Cerebral Palsy Register and continue researching the causes of this complex condition.

The donation is the first of many to come and part of Eagle Boys Pizza’s three-year partnership with Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

Eagle Boys’ network of over 340 stores collectively raised $21,675 across a seven-day campaign that donated $1 from every dessert sold during Cerebral Palsy Awareness Week (August 1 to 7) to Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

All funds raised have gone to Cerebral Palsy Alliance’s Research Foundation to fund a researcher in continuing to work towards finding a cause and helping to further develop the Cerebral Palsy Register.

Eagle Boys Pizza CEO Todd Clayton said the pizza maker had committed to raise $200,000 during the next three years as part of its partnership with Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

“In Australia, a child is born with cerebral palsy every 15 hours. It is the most common physical disability in childhood so it was important for us all to pitch in and promote national awareness of the condition,” he said.

“We saw a real opportunity to give back and support an organisation which is doing great work assisting children and adults with cerebral palsy.

“Our first fundraising initiative has been a huge success thanks to our customers’ support. Eagle Boys will continue to support Cerebral Palsy Alliance’s vital research through fundraising campaigns like our latest effort.”

Cerebral Palsy is caused by an injury to the developing brain, which usually occurs before birth.

Eagle Boys Pizza is Australia’s second largest pizza maker and is 100% Australian-owned. It operates more than 340 franchised stores throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, the ACT, and the Northern Territory, employing more than 8,000 staff and making more than 18 million pizzas a year.
