Eagle Boys Pizza stores are in training for the kick-off of State of Origin 2011, with teams selected and extra supplies waiting in the wings for one of the biggest pizza nights of the year.

As Australia’s second largest pizza maker, Eagle Boys is expecting to make more than 160,000 pizzas on Wednesday 25 May, double a normal Wednesday night.

To get across the line on the night, stores will use more than 22.4 tonnes of mozzarella cheese, 14.4 tonnes of pizza sauce and truckloads of fresh ingredients.

Eagle Boys Pizza Group Executive Marketing Christine Hooper said with Queensland striving for their sixth consecutive series victory and New South Wales hungry to restore their pride, interest in this year’s series was expected to soar.

“While players will be looking to set their own records, Eagle Boys stores are expecting this State of Origin series to set a new record by making almost half a million pizzas across the three nights,” she said.

“Maroon and Blue supporters alike will be glued to their TVs from kick-off and looking to fuel their barracking with great tasting pizza.

“We’re really focused on coming out fighting and getting all orders out hard and fast on the night. For us, the orders start coming in early as people prepare for the match, and even after the final siren blows our stores will still be giving 100% as fans celebrate.

“Putting extra bite into our pizzas is the fact that they are larger than the international pizza chains and use fresh ingredients to deliver a range of unique toppings.    We expect the Eagle Boys Works, Butcher’s Block and The Scorcher to be the Pizzas of the Match.

“For those celebrating on the night, the best match tip is to get your order in early by either phoning the store or ordering online.”

Eagle Boys Pizza is Australia’s second largest pizza maker and is 100% Australian-owned. It operates more than 335 franchised stores throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, the ACT and the Northern Territory, employing more than 8,000 staff and making more than 17 million pizzas a year.
