Gold Coast Big Dad’s Pies help local HeartKids

It’s not every day Helensvale pie lovers can enjoy a treat for a good cause, but buying a Big Dad’s Chunky Angus Pie and 600ml Soft Drink Combo in February will help raise over $1 million nationally to support children born with heart defects.

The initiative is part of Retail Food Group’s campaign which will raise funds for HeartKids, a charity dedicated to supporting children and their families affected by Childhood Heart Disease and funding much-needed research.

Helensvale residents are urged to drop a gold coin into donation boxes at their local Big Dad’s Pies store or purchase a HeartKids Combo – which includes a chunky angus pie and 600ml soft drink – with 50 cents from each combo to go towards HeartKids.

Helensvale Big Dad’s Pies will also be holding a HeartKids Pie Day on Saturday 25 February, with 20 cents from each pie sold to go towards HeartKids to support Queensland HeartKids children and their families.

Helensvale Big Dad’s Pie Franchisees Bill and Madonna Donnelly said they were keen to raise the awareness of Childhood Heart Disease because it affected so many Australian families.

“It is the number one cause of infant death in this country and accounts for twice the number of children’s lives lost to cancer,” Ms Donnelly said.

“HeartKids requires funding to not only financially assist and provide long term support to those families whose children suffer heart defects but importantly to advance much needed research into developing long term positive outcomes for sufferers and hopefully cures.”

Child heart defects range from holes in their hearts to children being born with only one chamber.

“When we learned that six children each day and more than 2,000 children a year are born with heart defects, we knew we had to support this cause,” Ms Donnelly said.

“We’re urging Gold Coast residents to get behind this cause and to help us raise over $1 million dollars nationally for these beautiful kids.”
