Date launched the franchise: January 2016

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you were doing prior to buying a franchise business?

I used to run a Aussic Pooch Mobile franchise from 2001 till 2006. When I became a mother in 2006 I took a step back from Aussie Pooch and helped to run my husbands building business. In 2016 I decided for a change of office work and to head back to Aussie Pooch Mobile!

Why did you go down the franchise route, and why did you choose your franchise?

“I had already worked with Aussie Pooch Mobile previously and liked being part of a group with a support network in place if required.”

How did you raise finance?

Self-finanaced. I was in the process of getting a loan, but the banks took months to o.k. it, so I used my own money – best thing I did!

What training and support did you recieve initially and ongoing?

As I had already had experience with Aussie Pooch Mobile not much training was needed! In terms of support, I only need to ring the office anytime and I can get help or advice.

What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?

Start with the school drop-off and then to my first job. Work through the day with several clients and then back to school for the 3pm pick-up! Sometimes I drop my son home and do one more wash, but usually I am finished at 3pm.

What challenges have you faced?

Getting the home/work balance right, but the flexible working hours have helped!

Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?

Becoming more financially independent again.

What is the most invaluable piece of advice you could give someone looking to buy their first franchise?

Make sure you’ll love what you do, because hating something you own is not a good place to be.

In your opinion, what makes a successful franchisee?

Be: reliable, friendly, interested, honest and upfront with your clients and yourself.

Don’t undersell yourself or short change yourself.

“Do the job how you would like someone to do it for you!”

What are your plans for the future?

This time around I want to be the tortoise, not the hare and enjoy the journey.

Would you do it again?

Already did!
