Location: Hocking WA
Franchise: Jim’s Fencing

Why did you choose franchising?
We chose franchising originally as we wanted to try operating under a well-known brand.

What did you do before taking up your Jim’s Fencing franchise?
We had our own business for 3 years Mowing and Landscaping

How did you raise the finance?
We got a business loan from our bank via a broker

What training and support did you receive initially and on-going?
The initial training when we joined Jim’s was 2 weeks on the tools however now it is improved and is 8 weeks and paid.

What is a typical day for you as a Jim’s Fencing franchisee?
We specialise in Glass fencing so we quote and do the occasional job but mainly use other Jim’s Franchisees to carry out our work.

What challenges have you faced?
Our challenges have been many and varied over the ten years in the business but being part of a strong group has certainly helped.

Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
Yes it has as the power of the brand has taken us from initially having a franchise in Melbourne, to moving to Perth and starting Jim’s Fencing here then building the region up and selling it to another existing franchise owner.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
Do your homework, make sure it is something you would enjoy doing and speak to others that are already doing it.

What are your plans for the future?
For the future we see ourselves building the glass fencing side of our business under the Jim’s Banner and now with our eldest son joining us we look forward to many more years of carrying on the business.

Would you do it again?
Yes we would definitely do it again as the power of a well-known brand is amazing in our opinion.
