Gelatissimo has today entered the exotic world of the Arabian Nights by opening its most spectacular gelateria to date, and its first Middle Eastern franchise, in Kuwait.

Combining Middle Eastern flair with Gelatissimo’s trademark sophistication, the gelateria is the first to be opened by the state’s master franchisee , “International Trade Holding Co. – Kuwait” owned by a well known Kuwaiti family. It is one of three Kuwaiti gelaterias opening this year, with more to follow.

Gelatissimo’s Joint CEO, Domenico Lopresti, says this is the perfect time to establish the brand in the region. “Middle Eastern people love sweet products and the climate is ideal for frozen treats,” says Domenico.

“And we are particularly pleased our first gelateria is in Kuwait, which has traditionally been a successful testing ground for new franchises for the Middle East. Perhaps more than any other country in the region, Kuwait is “franchise friendly”, with all the major international franchises well established,” he adds.

The master franchisee saw the brand in the Philippines and immediately recognised the synergies with its other business interests, which are aligned with the hospitality industry.

“We knew that Gelatissimo would be embraced in Kuwait as it is totally different to anything currently available,” says Richard Sabella, Vice President Business Development of International Trade Holding Co. Kuwait.

“There are lots of types of ice cream but nothing like the gelato produced by Gelatissimo. The taste is in a class of its own because the gelato is made fresh, in-store, on a daily basis. Plus its Australian and in Kuwait Australian products are considered to be of excellent quality,” he adds.

Gelatissimo’s Australian head office worked closely with the Master Franchisee to create the perfect product offering for local tastes. Exotic Middle Eastern flavours such as pistachio, honey, fig and cardamom sit comfortably next to Gelatissimo core flavours, and Australian delights such as wattle, eucalyptus, mango and macadamia.

The gelateria is located in The Village, a glamorous new 15 restaurant development, just outside Kuwait City. The Village promises to be a great destination location; a mix of cosmopolitan cafes, restaurants and entertainment that will especially cater for young people, with free Wi-Fi, so people can meet and still use the internet.

“Having a small population, visiting destinations to socialise is an important part of the Kuwaiti way of life and we know the opulence of the gelateria will dazzle everyone who enters the flagship store,” says Richard.
