International home appliance rental franchise Mr Rental has been a long time supporter of the Cancer Council Australia and the Cancer Society of New Zealand since its founder Glen Hickman lost his sister to cancer, but this year it will be making its biggest donation yet.
Mr Rental expects to make a corporate donation of up to $80,000 between both charity organisations this year topping its previous donation of over $75,000 in late 2009.
Mr Rental CEO Glen Hickman, who founded the company in 1991 with his wife Kerrianne, said they started raising money for cancer over 20 years ago.
“I lost my younger sister to cancer aged 44 and we started raising money for the cause and over the years friends and family of the Mr Rental network have also been affected, so cancer fundraising has become significant within the franchise today,” he said.
On top of Mr Rental’s corporate fundraising, which is generated at group training sessions and annual conferences, stores across Australia and New Zealand raise further funds through Relay for Life, Daffodil Day and Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
“A lot of our stores engage with their communities through donating ex-rentals to people in need or supporting the local football club, but every year when a cancer charity event comes around you find the best comes out of Mr Rental teams.”
Cancer Council Australia Corporate Partnerships Coordinator Stephanie Callanan said the Cancer Council Australia relied on support from the community.
“Donations help the valuable work in the areas of cancer research, prevention and support to continue and Mr Rental’s ongoing support is vital in enabling us to successfully reduce the impact of cancer for more Australians,” she said.
Mr Rental recently appeared as a top 10 franchise in Topfranchise’s satisfaction survey for the fourth consecutive year and last year won the coveted 2010 Franchise Council of Australia’s Established Franchisor of the Year award.
Mr Rental has built up a portfolio of 84 outlets across Australia and New Zealand with more planned to open throughout the year.
