Gelatissimo today opened its latest gelateria in the trendy inner-west Sydney suburb of Newtown.

Gelatissimo’s Joint CEO, Domenico Lopresti, says Newtown’s stylish King Street is the ideal location for a Gelatissimo outlet, with the new gelateria occupying a prime position opposite the iconic Dendy theatre.

“We have always wanted to have a gelateria in Newtown as it has just the right mix of cafes and restaurants to create a cool vibe during the day and vibrant night life,” says Domenico.

As soon as the new franchise owner Winston Ho became aware of the Gelatissimo brand, he fell in love with its delectable products.

“I find Gelatissimo has a very strong brand positioning, high quality product, excellent marketing and a culture of innovation which allows it to constantly adapt to the customers’ taste,” says Winston.

Recognising that his previous business of photographic development that he ventured out before the digital age impact in early 2000 then into the field of contact centres both local and overseas, Winston immediately saw the potential in owning a Gelatissimo franchise. The key competitive advantage he recognised that Gelatissimo holds over its competitors is that its products are made fresh on site daily using natural ingredients plus with more than 28 flavours on offer, something he is sure will appeal to Newtown locals.

Winston says he considered a few locations before deciding on Newtown.

“Other areas that we investigated included Surry Hills, Balmain, Kirribilli and Lane Cove,” he says. “We chose Newtown as it has a very strong strolling crowd presence with a wide and varied blend of cultures. It is an interesting strip with variety of eateries and a mixture of retail offerings.”

Winston has been living in Sydney for over 20 years, and he has travelled and worked overseas during that time. He graduated in mechanical engineering in the mid 90’s from University of Sydney, just around the corner from Newtown. Winston has had a wide range of work experience, but the common thread has been a commitment to exceptional customer service, which is essential to the Gelatissimo experience.

“I know that there are exciting times ahead,” says Winston. “Newtown will be a challenging environment because there are existing gelato outlets where competition leads to a higher standard of service and product quality expectations from customers. And undoubtedly, Gelatissimo’s will focus on superior offerings in both these categories.”
