Name: Rhod Webb
Location: Sydney CBD
Franchise: SIGNARAMA

Why did you choose franchising?
I wanted an established brand name that didn’t reflect an individual owner as would be easier to sell to customers. Franchising also offers proven methodology and processes.

The support of fellow franchisees available was also a selling point, and whilst part of a franchise, the freedom to grow and develop the business as I saw fit is also great.

What did you do before taking up your SIGNARAMA franchise?
Before buying my SIGNARAMA franchise, I held national sales and marketing roles. I also had general management profit centre responsibilities.

How did you raise the finance?
I raised the finance from savings and against my home.

What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
I had two week intensive training at the SIGNARAMA training school. I also received shop-based training in the early weeks of opening with assistance as required now on an ongoing basis.

What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?
No different from any other small businessman; ensuring sales team are focussed, production team know what they are doing for the day, ensuring business shop front presents well, manage customer expectations, work on cash flow and look for other opportunities to grow the business.

What challenges have you faced?
Potential clients seeing me as a “small job only” supplier, so having to build confidence in clients as to my capabilities.

Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
I take much pride in the ownership of a successful business. I also have some financial and personal freedom which grows as the business matures.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
Look for a business that you think you will enjoy running. Don’t be bound by looking for something close to home.

What are your plans for the future?
Grow the business further to build value for potential sale at a future date.

Would you do it again?
Yes but would start younger.
