Why did you go down the franchise route? And why did you choose Kubarz franchise?
Get into and start a business which was flexible where we could start small and expand to be as big as we wanted.
Flexibility of hours was needed – with a young family – having an almost 3 year old (at the time, our son is 5 now) – you can imagine what the demands of a 3 year old is like so the Kubarz franchise was the perfect choice for us.
What did you do before taking up your Kubarz franchise?
I come from a hospitality background so have always wanted to help people enjoy their way of life! Having been an at home Mum for 3 years, I missed doing that so began looking for what I could do to get back into the swing of things! – and build something up for when it comes time when my son will begin school.
How did you raise the finance?
Part savings, part finance.
What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
Initial training was 6-9 days (depending on how much we could fit in and cover) – again flexibility was there so we did our initial training 3 days over two weeks. An additional day or two was for onsite and on the job training.
There is always ongoing support and things are always changing and improving within our systems, so training is always available whenever any of us [franchisees] need it!
What is a typical day for you as a Kubarz franchisee?
WOW! Typical day?? There isn’t one! Sure sending out quotes, attaining leads and managing accounts etc. might be the usual tasks with any business but meeting and talking to so many different people is anything but typical!! Everyones’ way of life is so different so it’s great to see that reflected in the functions and events we cater for!
What challenges have you faced?
The winter months are harder. Being a cooler time of year, it’s quieter and less functions/events are held than they are during the warmer months.
Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
Definitely!! Anyone starting their own business will say the same! Obviously a lot more responsibility falls on your shoulders now. You need to make sure you’re doing everything you can to ensure your business thrives and a lot of time and dedication goes into that!
What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
Be sure to choose a franchise that falls in with what you enjoy doing and have a genuine and passionate interest in! It’s something you will be involved in for a long period of time so choose wisely!!
What are your plans for the future?
To grow and uphold the Kubarz name and service in Victoria!!
Would you do it again?
In a way, we already have. We were the very first franchisee and started the Western Sydney office – we now run and operate the [first] Melbourne office!!
