After setting out to make the Northern Territory’s largest pizza, Crust Parap in Darwin made Australian history, creating the country’s longest pizza on record.
Measuring 11.4 metres in length and weighing more than 100kg, the pizza was hand crafted by 17 team members and served up in over 500 slices on a custom made 12 metre wooden serving board on Friday 16 January at 1pm.
The record making pizza was made by Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar Parap in partnership with Darwin radio station Hot 100 FM.
Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar Franchisee Sally Illingworth said she was amazed at the huge response to the national record making pizza.
“We love pizza at Crust, so as soon as we heard Shad from Hot 100 FM’s idea to make the Territory’s largest pizza, we jumped straight on board,” said Sally.
“Little did we know, we were also setting ourselves up to make the country’s longest pizza – something that has never even been attempted before!
“We had an unbelievable response, with hundreds of locals turning out to taste a slice of Australia’s longest pizza, and many more contacting us over the weekend to offer their congratulations.”
In an interview with Hot 100 FM’s ‘The Morning Glory’ breakfast team, Guinness World Records representative Chris Sheedy said he was not aware of any existing Australia-wide record for longest pizza.
“If you think about the size of the pizza you’re making… if you stand it on its end, it’s going to be taller than a three story building… I think that’s pretty impressive,” said Mr Sheedy on air about the record attempt.
“As far as I know in Australia, nobody has come even close to creating a ten metre long pizza, and so I would say to the best of my knowledge this would absolutely be an Australian record.”
Sally said she was proud of her team for their outstanding effort to pull off the feat, and thanked the local Darwin community as well as Hot 100 FM for making the record possible.
