Australian celebrities step out to support Gloria Jean’s Coffee campaign

Australian Franchise News – 06-10-11

Former Australian cricketer Nathan Bracken, Channel 7 TV beauty Karen Ledbury, former pro surfer and model Laura Andon today launched Cappuccino for a Cause, an annual fundraising event by Gloria Jean’s Coffees’ global foundation, With Heart, to raise $150,000 for Variety, the children’s charity.

On Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October, Gloria Jean’s coffee houses across Australia will donate 50 cents from every cappuccino sold, to Australia’s most loved charity that helps to empower children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.

On Saturday 29th October, Australians could also find themselves being served by some of Australia’s favourite sporting heroes and celebrities, including Nathan, who will step behind the coffee machine to whip up cappuccinos in support of Variety.

Nathan Bracken today offered his full support to Cappuccino for a Cause to help With Heart and Variety to bring happiness to many special Australian children.

“I think Cappuccino for a Cause is a fantastic initiative and Variety is a very worthy charity. Variety does hugely important work with children around Australia with a focus on providing fun and enjoyment to those who need it the most,” Bracken said.

“We’re very confident we can reach our target of $150,000, but we need your help,” he said.

Cappuccino for a Cause aims to raise the six figure sum to fund the purchase of three Sunshine Coaches, that allow children to be transported to school and community events, as well as two Liberty Swings, which are custom-built swing-sets designed for children in wheelchairs.

Chief Executive Officer of Variety, David Small, said that the campaign, and the money raised, would give thousands of Variety children the opportunity to enjoy what many take for granted – mobility, freedom and independence.

“Cappuccino for a Cause is a great way for Australians to help some of our most special children in our community, many who have never enjoyed the pleasure of swinging through the air on a swing or sharing the joy of community events,” Mr Small said.

“And to know that you can make a difference and put a smile on a child’s face somewhere in Australia by simply enjoying a cup of coffee, is just fantastic,” he said.

Guests at Gloria Jean’s Coffees™ can contribute through donations in With Heart collection boxes, purchasing Gloria Jean’s Coffees™ Travel Cups and Shortbread Heart Cookies, throughout October. The fundraising ends on a high on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th October when 50 cents from every cappuccino sold, will go to Variety, the children’s charity.

“During the final weekend cappuccino drinkers across Australia can buy a cup of their favourite coffee and contribute to this worthy cause. Many coffee houses will also be creating a family day on the Saturday with special activities for the kids, and playing host to local celebrities who are also keen to support Variety,” said Bracken.

To support Variety, the children’s charity and Cappuccino for a Cause, there are four ways guests can contribute:

1. Visit a Gloria Jean’s Coffees™ house on 28th or 29th of October and purchase a cappuccino – 50 cents from every cappuccino sold goes to Variety;
2. Make a donation – donation boxes in coffee houses will be dedicated to Variety during October;
3. Purchase a Shortbread Heart Cookie – two for RRP$2 with 50 cents going to the charity;
4. Variety will receive $2 from the sale of all Gloria Jean’s Coffees™ Travel Cups in October.
