Australian Franchise News – 07-10-10
Gloria Jean’s Coffees is one of the few international brands ready to sub-franchise (open up to individual franchisees) in China with a number of franchisees committed to franchise individual coffee houses in China.
Dash Brands, the master franchise partner in China since 2008, has extensive experience in franchising. Their flagship store is located on the Bund in Shanghai and they now have a number of sites ready for expansion by individual franchisees.
“We have worked closely with Dash Brands to develop a growth plan for the market and we are delighted that in such a short time the brand has proved to be so successful in China that it is now ready to sub franchise. Our goal is to open 50 stores within the next three years. Our biggest challenge is to compete with other foreign coffee brands and local players in acquiring great locations with a competitive rent,” said Nabi Saleh, Executive Chairman Gloria Jean’s Coffees.
As with other international markets China has also localised the brand to appeal to local taste profiles. One example of this is introducing a range of Green Tea beverages to the Gloria Jean’s Coffees offering.
Turkey renews for up to 20 years
The international success of Gloria Jean’s Coffees was again bolstered today with the news that Turkey, the third largest international market (after Australia and the United States) with over 50 coffee houses, has renewed its master franchise agreement for up to twenty years and committed to significantly grow the number of coffee houses.
Gloria Jean’s Coffees has been operating in Turkey for 14 years now and this expansion will see the brand move closer towards the highly successful Australian model.
“Our Master Franchise Partner, Reysas Turizm, has also introduced an additional shareholder to bring in wider expertise and some more capital to the business. The existing management team will continue and are reenergised by the change and ready to take the brand to the next level,” said Nabi Saleh.
