An Australian Franchisee Case Study

The road to success is paved with coffee beans for one local business owner who has been recognised as the top ‘shot’ at the Xpresso Delight Franchise Awards.
Warner resident and owner of Xpresso Delight Spring Hill, Karin Thompson recently won the Xpresso Delight “Franchisee of the Year” Award after blitzing the competition on the criteria of strong sales growth, performance, superior customer service and presentation.
Winning the award against five other state finalists, not only is Karin a successful business owner, she is also the mother of three teenagers and she spends about four hours per day training for triathlons.
Xpresso Delight Queensland Master Agent Vivienne Beech said Karin was the perfect example of the attitude franchisees need to succeed and thrive financially.
“Karin has a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude to growing her business,” Vivienne said. “She never hesitates to grab an opportunity to gain new clients and quite a lot of her machines are placed in businesses well over an hour’s drive away from her home.
“Having a strong business growth rate of 25 percent and 14 coffee systems placed in client locations were also key factors in her success. She is very dedicated to boosting the profile of her franchise and she has professionally sign-written every panel of her car with the Xpresso Delight logo.
“She has three children, trains for triathlons and has a husband with a high profile job but she is able to maintain a healthy work-life balance thanks to Xpresso Delight’s semi-passive business model.”
Karin said it was a great feeling to be acknowledged as the top Xpresso Delight franchisee.
“I think it’s fantastic to be voted the number one Xpresso Delight franchisee in Australia and New Zealand,” Karin said. “I’ve always put 100 percent effort into everything I do and it has certainly paid off in terms of business growth and customer satisfaction.
“This year I’m looking forward to growing the business even further and providing even better customer service.”
The Xpresso Delight concept works by placing fully automated, commercial grade, gourmet espresso coffee machines into workplaces free of charge, costing just $1 per cup.
Vivienne said the company’s long-term goal was to become the number one provider of espresso coffee in the work place.
“Xpresso Delight has been named in the top five “fastest growing franchises by revenue” in BRW’s Fast Franchises rankings for the past two years and we want to continue that growth rate through the 2008/09 financial year.
“Our goal this year is to add another 50 franchisees to the network bringing the total up to 148 franchisees across Australia and New Zealand.”
