An Australian Franchisee Case Study
Name: JOHN WOOLLEY
Franchise: TOP SNAP MORNINGTON PENINSULA VICTORIA
Why did you go down the franchise route?
From previous experience in a franchise I knew the backup and support I would receive.
And why did you choose your franchise?
I was looking for photography work. After checking out what was available I believed this offered the most of what I was looking for to suit my lifestyle.
What did you do before taking up a franchise?
Owned a fabrication factory.
How did you raise the finance?
Had funds available.
What training and support did you receive initially and ongoing?
I spent two weeks training on the job in Queensland with the trainer and another franchisee. They were there as support either by phone or email whenever I had any questions. When I was back running my own franchise, head office was also only a phone call away.
What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?
Spending time taking or chasing orders, and marketing.
What challenges have you faced?
Trying to convince customers to change from cheaper photographers they have had for years and showing them we are better and the quality is worth the extra cost for a much better product.
Has becoming a franchisee changed your life, if so how?
Yes, by being able to work at something I enjoy giving me a more enjoyable lifestyle most of the time.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their first franchise?
A franchise is worth considering, because having a business you need all the backup and support you can get, which is not available if you go out on your own. Be patient as it takes time to build up a customer base, and to make sure you have working capital available to keep you going as you grow.
What are your plans for the future?
To keep going on the same path keep building the business when I can, and maybe at some point have a contractor to share the workload when I need a break.
Would you do it again?
