National pool and spa care franchise Poolwerx has appointed franchising expert Rod Young as its new chairman, bringing over 25 years’ franchising experience to help the leading company make its 2020 corporate vision a reality.

Mr Young’s domestic and international expertise establishing strong and successful franchise and channel strategies will be critical in helping Poolwerx achieve its ambitious target of 140 franchisees operating 350 retail stores and 1,000 mobile vans.

Mr Young’s immediate focus will be on two key aspects.

“Poolwerx has already created a fantastic value proposition for both consumers and franchise owners, so our task is accelerating growth through increased market share and maximising profitability,” he said.

He said the trajectory and rise in the business in global terms was enormous and another factor that attracted him to his new role.

“When I benchmark Poolwerx against other service and retail businesses, in terms of capital invested and return on investment Poolwerx is in the top 10 per cent.”

Welcoming his company’s new chairman, Poolwerx’s CEO John O’Brien said someone of Mr Young’s stature was the perfect fit to chair his Board of Directors.

“We have some ambitious goals requiring the best talent and guidance from the top, and we’re delighted to have someone as experienced as Rod to provide that leadership,” he said.

“Rod has been at the forefront of change in franchising and his insights will prove invaluable in gearing ourselves up ready for both domestic and international expansion, ensuring complete accountability along the way.”

Mr Young is Executive Director and Chairman of franchise consultancy DC Strategy and also chairs Cartridge World and Total Tools.
