  • Donut King’s ‘Megaspresso’ impresses Judges at National Coffee Chain Championships

Australian Franchise News – 10-09-15

Donut King’s star baristas impressed judges during the Signature Beverage round at 2015 DaVinci Gourmet Australian Coffee Chain Championships over the weekend with their ‘Donut Megaspresso’, a unique beverage with fun, decadent elements inspired by current treat trends.

Donut King Barista Trainer Daniel Lombardi said the judges loved the creativity of the Signature Beverage and that there were smiles all-round.

“You could tell the judges were very impressed with our drink and the effort that we put in to creating it,” he said.

“Our inspiration for creating the drink came from combining all of our signature menu items coffee, milkshakes, donuts, treats – and adding in the wow factor with the ‘mega’ size.”

In the Seasonal Beverage round the teams had to create a hot or cold beverage using DaVinci Gourmet syrups and present a business case for why the beverage should be on the chain’s menu.

Donut King’s drink contained multiple extravagant layers including chocolate sauce, milk, a shot of Royal Bean espresso, whipped cream flavoured with strawberry DaVinci Gourmet syrup, ice cream and two delicious glazed chocolate and caramel donuts. Placed on a wooden board and served with wafer sticks, crushed up flakes, crunchies, white chocolate sauce and strawberry cream, the drink looked as good as it sounds.

Competition Manager James Harper said Donut King’s drink was an eye catcher amazing judges and the crowd with its creativity.

“The Donut Megaspresso was very impressive, the ingredients, size and overall look was fantastic,” Harper said.

“I loved the donuts on top and watched carefully as the judges attempted to drink the creative beverage.”

Harper said the event has received an incredible response for its first year and he is looking forward to seeing Donut King compete next year.

“Almost every major chain in Australia was represented, along with many smaller, nimbler chains,” he said.

“It’s not every day chain baristas have the opportunity to step out of the café and prove to the public how great their coffee making skills are.”
